Becoming Catholic

After Jesus was baptized, he came up from the water and behold, the heavens were opened (for him), and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove (and) coming upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
--Matthew 3:16-17

RICA

Becoming Catholic: The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
RCIA involves several stages marked by study, discussion, prayer, and special ceremonies. Participants are received into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil Liturgy on Holy Saturday. After Easter there is a period of formation and education when the new Catholics reflect on their experiences at the Easter Vigil and continue to learn more about Scripture, sacraments, church teachings, and how they will serve Christ and the Church.

The Lockport parishes offer joint RCIA formation sessions on Thursday mornings and on Thursday evenings.  Separate sessions are held on Monday evenings for children.

Contact the Rectory for more information.

Parenting Perspectives:

  • Memory making sometimes means sharing one of your own childhood memories with your son or daughter. Think of a funny, sad, or meaningful experience (or even a mistake from your childhood) and entrust it to your child. It may bring you closer together, and may create deeper communication.
  • Apologizing isn‟t a sign of weak-ness; it shows you are big enough to admit your mistakes and models an important skill for your child. Is there any-thing you‟ve done (or not done) during the past year that an apology would help heal? Be big enough to do it. Saying „I‟m‟ sorry is not as deep a gift as saying „Please forgive me‟. Notice the difference?
