Fourth Sunday of Advent ~ December 23, 2018

Dec 21, 2018

My Dear Parish Family,

In the carol, “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” we sing about “ten lords a leaping.” In this Sunday’s Gospel we hear about another “lord” a leaping – the unborn John who leaps with joy in Elizabeth’s womb in the presence of the unborn Child in Mary’s womb. John leaps in the Presence of the Lord: the Savior of the world.

This Gospel makes clear to us that the coming of the Savior is the work of the Holy Spirit – then in the time of Mary and Elizabeth, now in our own time. As with Mary and Elizabeth, we must believe and be open to how the Spirit overshadows, inspires, and prompts us to bring Christ to birth among those whom we encounter every day.

The work of the Holy Spirit compels us to leap for joy in the Presence of the Lord. As with Mary, our every choice, every act, every encounter must disclose our heart’s desire to carry the Presence of the Lord to others. And to do so with haste.

In Christ’s Peace,

Fr. Walter
