My Dear Parish Family,

From whom do we learn the real meaning of joy and love? From self-giving parents, from the serenity of those who suffer chronic pain, from patient teachers, from hospice caregivers, from those who are faithful to their life commitments, from someone who lives out of deep faith, from someone who…etc…

Jesus is the master teacher of the real meaning of joy and love. He faithfully kept his Father’s commandments, he loved unconditionally, he revealed His Father’s plan of salvation, he appointed his followers to continue his saving mission and bear fruit, he laid down his life for us.

The joy of Easter exhibits itself in the persistent, quiet ways we lay down our lives for others. We lay down our lives when we take time to have eye contact and really listen to another, when we spend time with the lonely or seemingly friendless, when we uncomplainingly pursue the mundane tasks of our daily living. In these and many other ways we reveal that we have learned the real meaning of joy and love. We reveal that we are living the Easter mystery.

In Christ’s Peace,

Fr. Walter
