From the Scout troops at St. John the Baptist:
You’ve possibly grown accustomed to seeing the white hang tags on your door, either in November or in April. The Boy Scouts of America has for years conducted a “Scouting For Food” event in Western New York and across the country, where Scout units collect food door to door to donate to local food pantries. This year, with donations down nationwide due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Scouts are conducting a special “socially distant drive-in” event throughout Niagara County.
On Saturday, June 6th, Cub Scout Packs and Scouts BSA Troops will station themselves in local parking lots where County residents can drive by and donate non-perishable items to local food pantries, Outreach Centers and shelters. County residents are urged to prepare a bag or box of canned goods, pasta, jarred sauces and other non-perishables, then drive to one of the locations listed below. A friendly Cub Scout or Scouts BSA member wearing a mask will receive your donation and then deliver it to their chosen food pantry. Residents are also asked to donate new personal hygiene items like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant and the like.
Scouts will be at the following locations on Saturday, June 6 from 9AM until Noon.
There will be multiple units participating in multiple locations but the St. Johns Scout units will be distributed as follows:
Troop 14 (Girls Troop) – All Saints Parish (All donations at this location to All Saints' St. Vincent de Paul Pantry)
Troop 4 (Boys Troop) - St. Johns Parish
Pack 4 (Cub Scouts) – DeSales Catholic School
